It's been so long since I enjoyed a superhero film.

"To prepare for his role as the Joker, he lived alone in a hotel room for a month, formulating the character's psychology, posture and voice (the last one he found most difficult to do). He started a diary, in which he wrote the Joker's thoughts and feelings to guide himself during his performance."

The
Joker deserves a perfect 10/10 for the whole performance. Ironically, we couldnt see his face for the last film that he had finished filming.

Moulin Rouge

the themes of the poet and his dying lover:

Mistaken Identity
The plot was developed when Satine mistook Christian as Duke, the rich who was about to invest his money in the play and she tried to seduce him. Unlike Viola in Twelth Night, the protagonist soon realized her mistake and was in fact not interested in Christian as she told him that she was a courtesan, paid to ''say things that man wants to believe in".

Dreams
Aspired to be a 'real' actress, peforming in a theatre full of 'real' audience, Satine was bent on making Duke to invest in Spectaular Spectacular. She was also in fact, desired to be loved, as all these while Zilder and Marie made her to believe that she was only worth the amount 'men paid for her'. Hence, with Christian's presence, she was willing to make sacrifices and eloped 'away from Zilder, away from Marie, away from the Moulin Rouge.'

Motifs:

Music
As the story goes, music is an essential motif for this muscial jukebox film. the plot develops as different musical settings aids to get the audience relate to the comedy. the music's really good.

Gun
towards the end, the duke's body guard gave a goose-duck chase as Christan unknowingly played hide and seek with him, not knowing he would be killed as he went along to look for Satine for the last time. The gun flew off the stage and landed onto Duke's hands, and he marched toward the stage in an attempt to kill Christan for stealing his love and not following 'his way'.

Sparkling necklace
this necklance symbolised the ending Satine and the crews to follow the wish of how Duke wished the ending of Spectacular Spectacular to turn out. From the time of the midnight supper in the tower till the opening scene of Spectacular Spectacular, Satine wore the necklace, which was presumed that in the end the Maharajah would eventually be with the Hindi Courtesan.

The theme of Unrequitted Love
Christian loved Satine, who did not take a fancy in him and was only interested in making sure that Duke would invest the play, whom loved Satine and demanded Zidler to 'bind Satine' with him.

The lovers' secret song' , "Come what may,... how wonderful life is.." was an interesting piece, as the duo rehearse in front of the whole crew and with Satine and Chirstan making numerous eye contacts.

Eventully the love plot turned out to be the ending that possibly all audience wanted to be, with Satine dying. This ending, was revealed in many ways, such as Christian's narration at the start, Duke's questioning,'and in the end, would someone die?' and Satine's coughing.

Life and Death
Thwarted by life and death, the couple's love vow to be enduring until 'end of my life'. Unlike Romeo and Juliet, Christan wasnt aware of Satine's consumption illness until at the very end.

In order to save Christian's life, Zilder told Satine to 'use her talent' to save him, otherwise "killed by Duke's right hand man."

Spectacular Spectacular
Ironical ending, as what had happened in Spectacular Spectacular was pretty much the same for Duke, Christian and Satine's love triangle. Its extremely impromtu and ironical when Christian came out from the backstage and acted as the 'peniless sitar player'. When she tries to drive him off again, he takes the place of the show's hero, throwing money at her feet to "pay his whore," and storming off the stage. Especially when he confronted Satine and thanked her for 'curing his obsession for love', and simply walked off the stage, leaving Zilder and the rest momentarily stunned and Duke sneering. Satine confesses her love for him in the form of his secret song, and Christian and Satine reconcile in full view of the audience and the Duke.

Couldnt take the irony as the curtain drew and as the audience applauded in merry, and as backstage off the curtain, Satine passed away in Chirstian's arms.
